The perfect day would kick off with a 7:30 a.m. start in Cusco, where I’d get picked up and taken to get my bike. I can already feel the excitement of starting the engine and setting off on our adventure. The journey would take us through the towns of Poroy and up onto the beautiful high-altitude plains of Chinchero (elevation: approx. 12,352 ft / 3,765 m), which is about an hour from the city. I love the idea of watching the stunning Andean landscapes and scenes of local life whiz by.

Our first major stop would be the incredible ruins of Moray. I’m dying to see its famous circular terraces. The site, which was sacred to the Incas, is composed of four sunken, amphitheater-like complexes. It’s a surreal visual, but what’s truly fascinating is its history as a strategic center for agricultural research, with its unique microclimates used to grow a variety of plants.

Next, we’d ride just two kilometers over to the town of Maras. This is a stop I’m particularly excited about. I’ve heard it has this beautiful, old-world charm, with architecture showing a unique blend of indigenous and baroque styles. I really want to see its church, which is made of carved stone and features a beautiful semicircular archway and twin bell gables. I’d love to peek inside to see the valuable colonial canvases, especially the one of the Virgen Asunta.

The tour would then continue on to the legendary Salineras de Maras (the salt mines). On the way, I’ll be looking out for the dramatic snow-capped peaks of Verónica and Chicón. The Salineras themselves are a photographer’s dream—a cascading network of salt-encrusted terraces fed by a saltwater stream. This place has been a source of mineral-rich salt since the time of the Incas, and I won’t leave without buying some of the famous pink salt products and, of course, getting that iconic photo with the thousands of sparkling salt pools.

After this incredible motorcycle adventure, the ride back to Cusco would be the perfect way to wrap up a day I know I’ll never forget.
